The West Bank Lighthouse [40° 32' 18" N – 74° 02' 36" W] circa 1990. Also located on the eastern end of Raritan Bay and 3.3 miles East of New Dorp Beach, Staten Island, NY. It was built in 1901 and heightened in 1908 and is a cast iron conical "spark plug" style light sitting on a concrete/cast iron caisson. And at 70-feet, is the tallest lighthouse in the New York Bight. The last lighthouse keeper retired in 1945 and it was then operated by the U.S. Coast Guard until they automated it in 1985.
