The old "Whistler" buoy at "Scotland Grounds" off Sandy Hook, NJ circa 1965. Its official name was Scotland Lighted Horn Buoy "S". The buoy originally marked the location of the wreck of the "SS SCOTLAND" that sank in 1868 on a shoal off Sandy Hook called the Outer Middle Bar. Lightships were stationed at the location prior to the installation of the buoy in 1962.
