MOUNT DESERT, New York City – 1890 The "MOUNT DESERT" side-wheel steamboat was built in 1879 at Bath, ME for the Boston and Bangor Steamship Company. The photo shows the "MOUNT DESSERT" at Bar Harbor Wharf where she originally sailed as an excursion vessel and carried passengers to Mount Desert and Rockland, ME. She relocated to New York City in 1904 and began making daily trips to the fishing banks under the command of her new owner, Captain and Fishing Pilot George Beebe.
