Captain Jacob 'Jake' Martin Sr., EVELYN, Brooklyn, NY – 1914
Captain Jacob 'Jake' Martin at the helm of the "EVELYN", Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, NY circa 1914. Captain Martin was one of the pioneers of party boat fishing in the area and his "EVELYN" was the first converted steam yacht to sail as a party fishing boat from Sheepshead Bay. Consequently, he set a precedent for party boats that sailed from that port for the next 25 years… Converted luxury steam yachts were the mainstay of the Sheepshead Bay fishing fleet.
